Victorian gold and hair sentiment pendant, 19th century
Round pendant in 18k (750°/°°) yellow gold composed on one side of a 4-leaf clover motif in hair and on the other side of a monogram in hair drawing the letters R and G. This type of jewel sentiment or mourning jewelry was fashionable from the 1820s until the Second Empire. There are several examples similar to this one at the Museum of Decorative Arts in Paris or at the V&A in London. French work circa 1870. Presence of an eagle's head hallmark for 18 carat gold.
